Los Angeles, CA – June 6, 2009 –The Hive will host a sculptural installation work by Featured Artist Treiops Treyfid at their 729 S. Spring street location. The opening reception will be on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 8pm to midnight and is part of their monthly group show. The title of the mixed media installation is “Power People”.

Silhouetted human sculptural forms bursting with energy stand stoicly in front of a panorama of Los Angeles half underwater. Entwined around their legs are many thick electrical cords woven together. They collect in piles on the floor on their way to the outlets. Above, a holographic sun rises, heating and illuminating the scene. All that remains to be seen of the city are the very tops of the downtown bank skyscrapers. Treyfid’s enigmatic work portrays through symbols the relationship between the use of power from fossil fuel sources and a rise in sea level. As our insatiable craving for power continues to increase we heat the Earth’s atmosphere causing the polar ice caps to melt and sea levels to rise, revealing the consequences of unlimited and inefficient use of energy.

Treiops Treyfid has been actively involved in the Los Angeles art scene since 2000. His work is always conceptual and explores contemporary themes including environment, consumerism, and loss of identity. He is currently exploring a wide array of materials including recyclables, holographic foil and polyester resin. He has shown at many downtown and Hollywood galleries including The Hive, Deborah Martin Gallery, MJ Higgins, Create:Fixate, Eco-Art Gallery, Phantom Galleries, and J.Ferrari.
