SWARMUSIC a guerrilla street performance Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk Nov. 12, 2009 - PART1 SWARMUSIC was a guerrilla street performance that occurred Thursday November 12, 2009 during the downtown Los Angeles Art Walk. There were 6 performers in costume who were walking a planned route, each with a portable amplifier strapped to their chest. Each amplifier was hooked up to an MP3 player which was playing a soundtrack. Each soundtrack together was part of a 6 track song. As the performers entered and exited various venues the "song" faded in and out. Each soundtrack length was different causing the entire sound performance to in a sense be improvisational. The Performers entered the Museum of Neon Art on 4th street, a gallery on 6th and Main st, as well as the Hive Gallery on Spring street south of 7th. The performers were: Andy Hermann, Khadija Anderson, Adele Satori, Jeff Bughouse, Andrea Morgenstern, Treiops Treyfid. Camera by Chistopher Nelson. This is part 1 of 3. |

POWER PEOPLE - A Mixed Media installation by Treiops Treyfid Silhouetted human forms bursting with energy stand in front of a panorama of Los Angeles half underwater. Entwined around their legs are many thick electrical cords woven together. The cords collect in piles on the floor on their way to the outlets. Above, a holographic sun rises, heating and illuminating the scene. All that remains to be seen of the city are the very tops of the downtown bank skyscrapers. Treyfids enigmatic work portrays through symbols the relationship between the use of power from fossil fuel sources and a rise in sea level. As our insatiable craving for power continues to increase we heat the Earths atmosphere causing the polar ice caps to melt and sea levels to rise, revealing the consequences of our unlimited and inefficient use of energy. |

It was a group show with several artists. However, only my artworks are shown here. The opening was during the very popular Downtown Art Walk (http://www.downtownartwalk.com). My pieces in the show ranged from 2D to 3D. The Deborah Martin Gallery was formerly known as the Spring Arts Collective Gallery and had been going for 3 years in the Spring Arts Tower Mezzanine location on 5th and Spring st. Are They Alive? An Art Show by Treiops Treyfid at Chango 2008 Are They Alive? - A solo show of contemporary artwork by Treiops Treyfid. This collection of work consists of a series of what the artist calls "Dynamic Portraits". These are artworks in the form of relief sculpture created through a complicated process using exotic materials such as holographic foil and polyester resin. Holographic foil is a material which seems to have energy bursting from it. At every angle the holograms reflect light into different patterns and colors. The basic imagery for the pieces is derived from photographs of wig forms and manikins, which are fake representations of humans. The artist finds the contrast between the seemingly "alive" holographic material and the imagery from "not-alive" wig forms fascinating and dualistic. |

Treiops Treyfid at The Hive Gallery in Los Angeles 2006 I was a resident artist at The Hive Gallery and Studios from April of 2005 to May of 2007 in downtown Los Angeles. I was among the first to move into the Hive Gallery and was a participant and witness to it's rise of status as one of downtown's favorite art destinations. I have since moved to a larger work space closeby in downtown at the Crescent Creamery building. The footage from this video was shot at The Hive in December 2006 during one of it's Saturday openings and features many of my paintings and sculptures. The Hive Gallery has an opening the 1st Saturday of every month which is usually a group show of Los Angeles based artists. During the openings the Hive resident artists have their spaces open for the viewing public. |
