I believe that it is possible that the physical memory of trauma, intense emotions, and habitual thinking is carried in the cells of the body through many generations. I believe we all feel these echoes from the past in our bodies and minds (carried by DNA) and that it is our task to realize that they are there and work to change these patterns if necessary. Many of my ancestors lived in the American south and owned African slaves. On the bottom right of the painting is a slave cabin, this represents the memory of fear and abuse, hatred and shame that my ancestors participated in. The top left of the painting is an optimistic image representing “Life Energy”. In the center are abstract forms representing the journey from trauma to realization.
