Highways located at 1639 18th Street in Santa Monica, CA., is pleased to present the HODGE PODGE II curated by Julie Rico. This exhibition is about creative energy and the populist art movement.
The first Hodge Podge was held at the Spanish Kitchen Studios/Action Space in downtown Los Angeles, curated by Voychek Szaszor and Julie Rico. Together and separately over many years they tried to galvanize and organize the artists from Los Angeles. Hodge Podge one kicked off the downtown artists festival. Over 100 artists particpated in an explosion of creative energy. This show is dedicated to Voychek Szaszor who left L.A. and is a great loss to the art community and to Ed “Big Daddy” Roth who worked with Julie for 7 years. The king of cars and creator of the Ratfink.
After 12 years of galleries Julie realized that the gallery system is set-up to create an elitist illusion connected to the artworld. This show is going to reveal that a populist movement for art is in full throttle. Projections, paintings, poetry, prints, architectural drawings, conceptual art representational art and every style of art will be on display. In addition Julie will be serving Love Bar drinks a fermented green tea mixture with organic herbs that makes you feel high and healthy. MMMMM so good.
